Photoneo has released a major software update that brings an officially supported Python API, Early Transfer for accelerated AI inference, and up to 70% faster 3D data reprojection.
Python API
The new Python API provides native Python bindings for Photoneo’s PhoXi Control Library, enabling:
- Camera discovery, connection, and configuration
- Trigger management and frame acquisition
- Point cloud and depth map access as NumPy arrays
- Integration with OpenCV, PyTorch, and TensorFlow
Early Transfer
The Early Transfer feature begins streaming 3D data to the host before the full scan is complete. This overlaps data transfer with ongoing scan acquisition, reducing effective latency for AI inference pipelines.
70% Faster Reprojection
3D data reprojection has been optimized to run up to 70% faster. This is critical for multi-camera setups and robotic hand-eye calibration workflows.
Impact
- Python API eliminates C++ wrapper code in prototyping
- Early Transfer reduces pipeline latency for time-critical applications
- Faster reprojection enables more complex multi-sensor setups
Photoneo’s investment in developer tooling reflects the industry trend: software ecosystem and developer experience are increasingly the differentiators that drive adoption.
