Automate 2026, Chicago (June 18, 2026) — RealSense, spun out from Intel, officially launched the D585 Pro depth camera and Perception Studio platform at Automate 2026, marking the arrival of the AI-native era for depth vision technology.
All-New Gen 5 Architecture: 2× Image Quality Improvement
The D585 Pro features a proprietary fifth-generation System-on-Chip (Gen 5 SoC) integrating a depth engine, image signal processor (ISP), digital signal processor (DSP), dedicated AI accelerator, and quad-core ARM processor, paired with dual IR projectors and high-resolution sensors.
Core Specifications:
- Field of View (FOV): 120°×100°, optimized for visual SLAM and global scene perception
- Depth Resolution: Up to 1280×960 at 60fps (2× the competition)
- Minimum Working Distance: <15cm at full resolution (2.5× closer than competitors)
- Maximum Effective Range: 10m+ with optimized accuracy; industrial environments up to 20m+
- Ingress Protection: IP65 as standard (no premium SKU surcharge across the product line)
- Interfaces: GMSL2 + USB-C, with hardware synchronization support
- Global Shutter + Built-in IMU
- Dual RGB Mode: Simultaneous 30fps RGB + 30fps depth streams, on-chip fusion, zero host CPU overhead
- Depth Compression: Merges 2×2 pixel blocks into single-precision depth data points, reducing bandwidth by 75%
AI-Native and Software-Defined
The D585 Pro ships with on-chip people detection (beta) that consumes zero host compute resources. Through SDK updates, capabilities including Visual Inertial Odometry (VIO), occupancy grid generation, auto-calibration, and face detection will be progressively added: deploy hardware once, upgrade capabilities continuously.
The concurrently launched Perception Studio Beta Program gives developers early access to new perception technologies. Initial beta features include:
- Ultra-close-range depth sensing (D401/D405 pushed below 3cm)
- People detection (enhancing safety and human-robot interaction capabilities)
- Visual Inertial Odometry (VIO) + cuSLAM
Core Application Scenarios
- Humanoid Robots: Dual RGB enables multimodal perception for manipulation, navigation, teleoperation, and human interaction
- Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs): Full-range perception from 10cm obstacle detection to 20m+ corridor navigation
- Collaborative Robotic Arm Inspection: Ultra-close-range precision for surface defect detection and assembly verification
- Industrial Conveyor Scanning: 60fps high frame rate ensures quality inspection on moving production lines
Availability
The RealSense D585 Pro is expected to begin shipping in Q1 2027. Multiple humanoid robot, AMR, and robotic arm developers are currently conducting evaluation testing.
RealSense CEO Nadav Orbach stated: “The D585 Pro is not an incremental upgrade to previous generations: it is the product realization of our ‘Physical AI Visual Cortex’ philosophy. For the first time, developers can deploy a single depth camera that covers from 15cm to over 10 meters, works indoors and outdoors, and continuously gains new capabilities through software updates.”
