Orbbec has released a significant update to OrbbecSDK v2, bringing substantial improvements to depth data quality, multi-camera workflows, and developer experience.
Key Improvements
- Depth Anomaly Fix: Fixed abnormal depth values in Gemini 335Le under hardware D2D and software D2C scenarios by adding maximum abnormal depth filtering
- Multi-Camera Sync: Enhanced hardware synchronization for multi-camera setups, improving alignment accuracy in 360-degree perception systems
- Point Cloud Quality: Improved noise reduction algorithms produce cleaner 3D point clouds
- ROS 2 Integration: Updated OrbbecSDK_ROS2 with new launch file parameters for Femto Mega and Bolt
Developer Experience
The SDK now supports a broader range of development environments:
- Python bindings with improved documentation
- C/C++ API with simplified initialization workflows
- ROS 2 Humble and Jazzy compatibility
- Unity and Unreal Engine plugins for AR/VR development
Migrating from Azure Kinect SDK
With the discontinuation of Azure Kinect DK, OrbbecSDK v2 includes a dedicated migration guide and compatibility layer for developers transitioning from the k4a SDK.
Developers are encouraged to update to the latest SDK version to benefit from the depth quality improvements, particularly if working with the Gemini 335Le or multi-camera configurations.
